One of the joys of staying at The Bean House is its location. Nestled in the peaceful countryside near Huércal-Overa, in the foothills of the surrounding mountains and just five minutes from the village of Urcal, it offers a tranquil base for exploring the authentic side of southern Spain.
Scenic drives lead to traditional villages, natural springs, mountain landscapes and the Mediterranean coast, while each day ends with the peace and quiet of your own rural retreat.
Meet Your Host
The Bean House is owned by Clarissa, who lives with her husband on a farm in the beautiful countryside of Suffolk, England. Having long loved Spain, she found the perfect contrast in rural Almería—where clear blue skies, dramatic mountain scenery and warm sunshine make it an ideal escape, particularly during the cooler months in the UK.
Although Clarissa isn’t able to welcome guests in person, she enjoys helping visitors plan their stay and is always happy to answer questions in English, French, German or Spanish. Her trusted local house managers are on hand in Spain to look after guests and the house with the same care and attention she would give herself.

Inside the House
The Bean House has been thoughtfully arranged to feel welcoming from the moment you arrive. The comfortable sitting room, fully equipped kitchen and spacious bedrooms provide everything needed for a relaxing holiday.
The sitting room and all three bedrooms are air- conditioned, while ceiling fans throughout the house provide additional comfort during the warmer months. Insect screens on every window allow the refreshing mountain breezes to flow naturally through the house, while the screened courtyard invites you to enjoy outdoor meals and barbecues to the soothing sound of the fountain.
Whether you choose to cook at home or eat out, you’re well catered for. Several friendly local restaurants are just 5–10 minutes away, serving authentic Spanish dishes at excellent prices—perfect for a relaxed lunch or an evening meal after a day of exploring.
BEDROOMS
Restful Nights
Three comfortable bedrooms provide space for couples, friends and groups of up to six guests.
The Green Bedroom
King-size bed, en-suite bathroom and rural charm.
Twin Bedroom
Comfortable twin room with countryside views, a French window opening onto the front terrace, and an en-suite bathroom.
The Blue Bedroom
Features an impressive emperor-size bed with views of the vine and the Andalusian sky.
Every bedroom is approximately the same size and thoughtfully equipped with a wardrobe, chest of drawers, chair, folding luggage rack, bedside lighting, long mirror, dressing mirror, hair dryer and plenty of coat hangers.
Bed linen, bath towels and pool towels are provided for your stay. For longer visits, fresh linen can be supplied, and additional housekeeping can be arranged on request.
The Green and Blue Bedrooms also feature net curtains for daytime privacy and blackout curtains to help keep the rooms cool and ensure a restful night’s sleep.

Both bathrooms are bright, spacious and thoughtfully equipped for a comfortable stay. Each features a walk-in shower, toilet, wash basin with shelving and storage cabinets, while one bathroom also includes a bidet.
Whether you’re getting ready for a day exploring Andalucía or freshening up after a swim, you’ll appreciate the practical layout and generous storage that help make everyday routines simple and convenient.

The Bean House offers a variety of outdoor spaces where guests can relax and enjoy the slower pace of rural Spain.
The private above-ground swimming pool is exclusively for your use, providing a welcome way to cool off on warm days—float in the cool water and enjoy the countryside views.
Enjoy barbecues or leisurely meals in the screened, private courtyard, take in amazing sunsets from the front terrace, and enjoy the shade of the ancient olive tree over breakfast by the vines as swallows scythe overhead.
The gardens are home to many ancient olive trees and fruit trees, including organic apples, tangerines, lemons and persimmons, and guests are very welcome to help themselves when the fruit is in season.
Beyond the fruit trees, much of the garden has been left in its natural state, creating a peaceful haven for local wildlife. Guests may occasionally spot wild tortoises, while the garden is home to a wide variety of birds, making it a lovely place to relax and enjoy nature.
From morning coffee outdoors to sunset drinks overlooking the hills, the outdoor spaces are designed to be enjoyed throughout the day.
Well-behaved dogs are welcome at no extra charge. Down the road, the rambla (with parts in welcome shade) is a great place to walk them, and in the courtyard they will find patches of shade throughout the day and a doggy paddling pool when it is hot.
GAMES & STARGAZING
A Games Room Like No Other
The Bean House offers far more than just comfortable accommodation. The spacious games room overlooks the private pool through a full-height glass wall, creating a bright and relaxing space to enjoy at any time of day.
Challenge friends or family to a game of table tennis, junior pool or darts, enjoy a workout on one of the four exercise machines, or simply relax on the sofa with views across the pool and surrounding countryside.
A telescope is also provided for bird watching during the day and stargazing beneath the wonderfully dark Andalusian skies after sunset—making The Bean House a place to enjoy long after the day’s adventures are over.
With very little light pollution, clear evenings reveal spectacular views of the night sky.

Everything You Need
The Bean House is equipped with everything needed for a relaxing and comfortable self-catering holiday.
Fully Equipped Kitchen
The spacious kitchen includes an oven, four-burner gas hob, dishwasher, microwave, electric kettle, espresso coffee machine (that uses coffee grounds), toaster and a generous selection of cookware, crockery and utensils for up to six guests. An extendable dining table comfortably seats everyone for meals together.
There is a Dia supermarket 12 minutes away where you can stock up on all food and drink for your stay (it has an excellent fresh fish and meat counter), and Huércal-Overa has two weekly markets where you can buy fresh vegetables.
Laundry & Essentials
A washing machine is provided in the courtyard, along with an iron and ironing board. Fresh bed linen, bath towels and swimming towels are all included, with additional linen available by arrangement for longer stays.
Local Support
Our friendly English house manager, Charlie, lives nearby with her Spanish family in Urcal and speaks both English and Spanish. She is available by telephone should you need any advice or assistance during your stay. Additional cleaning and fresh bed linen can also be arranged for a small additional charge.
